DRC: The next president of the African Union has arrived in Addis Ababa

The day before the opening of the 34th summit of heads of state and government of the African Union, the President of the Republic Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo arrived this Friday, February 5, 2021 in the evening in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.

The President of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia SAHLE-WORK ZEWDE made the trip to Bole International Airport to welcome her distinguished guest.

Presidents Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo and SAHLE-WORK ZEWDE had a long interview at the presidential lounge at the airport, according to a dispatch from the presidential press of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The future president of the African Union did not make a statement to the press after this first interview.

This Saturday February 6 will open the 34th summit of the African Union. For the first time, African heads of state will discuss by videoconference.

The work will last 2 days and will lead to these decisions as is done in the face-to-face format.

During the opening session scheduled for this Saturday in the Nelson Mandela Hall, President Tshisekedi will be invested as current president of the African Union for the year 2021.

His office includes in addition to the DRC which assumes the presidency, Senegal, Egypt, RSA and Kenya.

The new AU President will conduct his first meeting by videoconference from his offices at the African Union Headquarters. 

During this 34th summit, the heads of state will vote the next president of the organization for the year 2022.
